DISTRICT 42 BUSINESS MEETING
May 9, 2002

The meeting opened with the usual moment of silence, Serenity Prayer, Twelve Traditions, GSR Statement and introduction of attendees.
ATTENDING: Don, Pat, Harold, Carol, Alice, Gary, Patrick, Tom, Larry, Mike, Cody, Dave, Jeremy, Denise, Bill, Shelia, Melissa and Cat.

Announcement: Dave from the Broadview group announced that they are interested in getting a Zone 142 Bowling League. He distributed a sign up sheet and asked to find out who was interested.

APPROVAL OF MINUTES: Corrections: Denise from the Boiled Owl noted that her name was not listed under “Attending” but was reflected under GSR report, and that the group answers phones on the 5th Sunday not Friday. Harold from AAUU was not at the meeting in April, but the minutes stated he was.
MOTION: Denise moved to approve the April 11, 2002 meeting minutes as amended. Cody seconded. MOTION PASSED 18-0.

BIRTHDAYS: John 5 years, Harold 20 years, Don 13 years, Shelia 18 years, Carol 5 years.

GSR SHARING:

AAUU: Harold F. reported that the group meets Saturday mornings at the Shoreline Ulatarian Church.

MEN’S ROOM: John reported that the group meets 7:30PM on Thursday’s at St. David’s Emmanuel Episcopal Church. The group has a Big Book Study and a Regular Meeting. He stated “Everything is Groovy,” and they continue to get new members.

JAYWALKERS: Cody announced that the group meets Saturday at 8:00 PM at Bethel Lutheran Church. He introduced Mike as the new Alt. GSR. The group started a traditions study that meets from 6:30-7:30 PM the first Saturday of each month. They will be holding their 8 year anniversary potluck/picnic on June 8th.

VETERANS AND OTHERS: Patrick reported the group meets Monday at 7:00PM at the Bethel Lutheran Church. The group had a medical student attend the meeting last week for observation purposes.

BROADVIEW: Jeremy reported the group meets daily at various times. There are more than 30 meetings per week, check your schedule for details. The group has a speakers meeting once a month and a young peoples meeting on Saturday’s.

BOILED OWL: Denise reported that the group meets on Monday at 7:30 PM at the Broadview Community Church. The group is excited about the possibility of a bowling league. A group member has volunteered to write the history.

RICHMOND BEACH: Tom shared the meets 7:30 PM on Mondays at Church of the Nazarene. They have a general meeting, step study meeting and al-anon meeting. Group members are volunteering to carry pagers for Sno-King Intergroup to help cover 12 step calls.

DRUNKS R US NORTH: Larry reported that the group meets Friday’s at 8:00PM, at the Shoreline Christian Church. They also offer childcare. Attendance is high, the meetings are standing room only. They had 28 members turn up to do the groups history.

HIGHLANDERS: Gary reported that the group meets at 8:00PM at St Lukes Church in the Rainbow Room. Membership is between 12-15 people. His closing comment was to “Keep on keepin’ on.”

CANAL GROUP: Melissa reported that the group meets Saturdays at the Freemont Fellowship Hall, (check your schedule for time). She is the new Chair of the Freemont Fellowship Hall Committee. The group is planning a picnic in July and having an alka-thon over Memorial Day weekend.

DISTRICT REPORTS

DCM – Don M: Stated he would cover his report under new/old business.

ALT. DCM – Pat D: Nothing to report.

SECRETARY – Carol M: Nothing to report.

TREASURER –Harold F. reported that District. 42 received $94.00 in April, and paid $0 expenses, and the group has $1,580.00 in the bank.
He noted that he reserved the Picnic Shelter at Richmond Beach Park for September 7th.
He also asked to add “District 42 Picnic Planning be added to the agenda.”

MOTION: Cody moved to add “District 42 Picnic Planning to New Business.” Melissa seconded. Motion passed 18-0.

ARCHIVES – Alice B: Alice reported that she has received a total of 8 group histories so far. John volunteered to help with the formatting of the group history form. Tom suggested that the group history form be e-mail to the Seattle Inter-group webmaster, (Burke). John agreed to do so.

REGISTRAR – John: Reported that his computer had a virus and he was not able to update the Motel Flyers or Phone Lists. He asked that any changes be given to him so he can update them for next month.

COOPERATION WITH THE PROFESSIONAL COMMUNITY – Tom R: Reported that he currently holds 3 service positions and would like to turn the Dist. 42 CPC Chair position over to Bill.
MOTION: Tom moved to elect Bill to the District 42 CPC Chair position. Mike seconded motion. Motion passed 18-0.

There will be a CPC Workshop on June 22nd from 10 AM-Noon at Seattle Inter-group. The panel will include a Judge, a Clergy member, and a Mental Health Professional, all who are members of AA.

He and Bill attended the WW Area Quarterly with Bill in Hoquiam. He passed around an information packet that could be distributed to Professionals in the Community. They also received three Big Books to distribute to Professionals, and then write a paragraph about the experience to turn back into the WWA CPC Chair.

Tom also reported that he and Sam worked a booth at the Shoreline Community College Wellness Fair. He spent $35.00 on literature and a stand for the event.

MOTION: Melissa moved to reimburse Tom $35.00 for his expenses.

CORRECTIONS- Jeremy: Feels he does not have the time to commit to the position that is required and is looking for someone to take it over. He will continue to serve until someone else can step in.

LITERATURE & GRAPEVINE: Larry J: Stated that he has a lot of literature available for any groups that need some.

PUBLIC INFORMATION- Sam K: Not able to attend. Tom reported that Sam sat on a Public Information panel at Mt. Lake Terrace High School along with members of District 24. Students asked questions and participated in discussions with the panel. Mariner High School is also interested in hosting a P.I. Panel.

TREATMENT FACILITIES – Shelia O: She attended the WWA Treatment Quarterly on April 27th. She is looking for someone to work along side her and turn the position over to in Jan. 2003. She received 20 new Big Books for the new treatment center in our district. District 38 recently got a Treatment Chair so now Residence 12 will go to meetings in that district.

SATURDAY DINNER BUNCH: Cat reported that the group meets Saturdays at 7:30 PM at The Aurora Family Restaurant. She went on a cruise, so she has not been at the meeting lately. She hears they are doing great.

OLD BUSINESS
Results of Poll from GSR’s ASL Motion: Five groups supported the ASL motion. Many groups have not yet voted on the issue so the issue will be revisited at next months meeting.
Web Page Report: John did not have an opportunity to check out the Skagit AA website. He will contact their webmaster and get information regarding costs, etc. and report back next month. Mike stated he may have time to work on the project if the district develops a webpage. Tom suggested contacting the DCM from district 24 to discuss the issue. He believes they have spent about three months researching the issue. Mike said he would contact the DCM and report back next month.
Delegates Report- May 11th: There is a Delegates Report scheduled for Saturday May, 11th from 10:00 AM – Noon at the Magnolia United Church of Christ – 3555 W. McGraw, Seattle. There will be a presentation of Andy A’s report of the 2002 General Service Conference in New York.
District 42 Inventory: The District 42 Inventory is scheduled for June 13, 2002. Ernie will be facilitating the project.

NEW BUSINESS
New Motions from Groups: None.
Support for PI Booth at Evergreen State Fair: District 3 hosts the booth and needs volunteers for stand by status to serve. Financial donations and used Gravepine’s are also needed.
MOTION: Cody moved to donate $40.00 to the Evergreen PI Committee. Tom seconded motion. Motion passed 18-0.
District 42 Newsletter: Rich needs articles and information to put in the newsletter. Please Email articles to Rich at: seakato@aol.com.
District 42 Picnic Planning: The picnic is scheduled for at Richmond Beach Park. Harold volunteered to do the shopping and bring some supplies that are left over from last year. Don and Carol volunteered to help as needed. Cat volunteered to provide a karaoke machine. More discussion will take place next month.

PRESENTATION: CONCEPT VI

Concept V was presented by Cody.
Mike volunteered to present Concept VI in June.

MOTION TO ADJOURN: Cody moved to adjourn. John seconded. Motion passed 18-0.
